The Tere Moana - With Paul Gauguin Cruises

Tere Moana, the Ocean Traveller

Intimate - Relaxing - Luxurious - Well-appointed - Friendly & Perfect.

Our team at The Cruise Portfolio offices were lucky enough to fly out to Monte Carlo for the day to take a look onboard Paul Gauguin’s last ship, the m/v Tere Moana. On our return, as a team we were asked to come up with six words to describe the Tere Moana; Intimate - Relaxing - Luxurious - Well-appointed - Friendly & Perfect!

Greeted by an array of crew as we walked onboard, with friendly smiles all round, they couldn’t have been more welcoming. With around 60 crew onboard you really were looked after. Tina, the Ho tel Director, was more than happy to show us around. Starting with ‘Le Salon’, the first thing I noticed was the décor; very luxurious and tasteful. The room looked very warm and welcoming with a Piano and dance floor as a centre piece and a bar by the entrance. I already knew I wanted to stay onboard just so I could experience the evening’s atmosphere, I imagined simply sitting back, relaxing to the music with a drink in hand. Perfect.

As far as dining was concerned you were simply spoilt. Tina explained that they liked to use fresh produce from the ports they docked in, so often the menu could have a variety of dishes to make those sailing with them really feel at one with the destination. La Veranda is an indoor/outdoor buffet style restaurant mainly used as a breakfast and lunch area and let me tell you…. The food looked simply irresistible! Down on deck 2 was ‘L’Etoile’, Tere Moana’s evening restaurant offering an ‘International a la Carte’ dinner menu. Just like everywhere onboard the presentation really was to a high standard, the tables were dressed beautifully.

Now one of the biggest highlights was the outdoor space. There were ample deck chairs and sun loungers; you just had to decide whether you wanted to sit by the pool and bar on deck 5 or go up to the sun deck and relax by the Jacuzzi, it was a tough choice believe me. Of course with the sun beaming down and Monte Carlo as a back drop I was very tempted to take a seat and simply not get back up so I could enjoy this intimate ship. That was the thing, intimate; you really did feel as though you were on your own private yacht. The library was designed to feel as though you were in your own private living room, so if you wanted a bit of quiet time I certainly would recommend curling up in there with a good book.  If you fancy something else there’s always the gym or the spa too.

The staterooms were the biggest surprise. For the size of the ship they really were rather large. Plenty of space, well-appointed and the perfect way to relax after a day discovering a port. With a wardrobe big enough to hold clothes to last you months and a bathroom so clean and modern, I believe you could never been disappointed with any stateroom onboard. All staterooms had an outside view and those with balconies really were spoilt, yet again the size of the balconies really were a nice surprise.

The biggest thing I took from the visit was how perfectly sized the Tere Moana was for the ports it visits. It really did fit wonderfully into its surroundings.  Accommodating just 90 guests and with itineraries in Europe, The Caribbean and Latin America, this ship is a perfect way of exploring those hidden ports that larger ships can’t reach.
